The Vets

Tim Watson

Dr Tim Watson - BVM&S, PhD, MRCVS

Tim qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 1987 and spent the next 7 years at the University of Glasgow, where he combined postgraduate training in equine medicine with clinical and research activities. Following periods in England and Paisley, Tim recognised the need for a horse practice in Scotland and established the Equine Veterinary Clinic in 2000. Tim is an FEI Vet, Director of the British Horse Industry Confederation and Chairman of the Scottish Equestrian Association. He also writes a monthly column for the Scottish Farmer magazine and most weekends works as an unpaid groom for his eventing daughter!

 

Gavin Lawrie - BVMS, CertEP, MRCVS

Gavin qualified from The University of Glasgow in 1994.  He joined the practice in April 2003 from The Liphook Equine Hospital in Hampshire, one of the largest equine hospitals in the UK.  In 2001 he obtained the postgraduate qualification in Equine Practice.  He has brought to the practice extensive and valuable surgical experience and is curently undertaking the postgraduate qualification in Equine Orthopaedics.  Prior to joining the Equine Veterinary Clinic, Gavin worked in Australia and New Zealand where he specialised in reproductive work.  He is the proud owner of a Thoroughbred brood mare.

Sara Kent - BVSc MRCVS

Sara qualified from the university of Bristol in 2005,  then worked in a mixed practice specializing in farm and equine practice. Sara joined The Equine Veterinary Clinic in 2008 and enjoys reproductive work, equine medicine and inpatient management.  Sara events 'Albert', an Irish Sports horse and is training 'Wilma' a 4 year old thoroughbred cross. On visits Sara will be accompanied by her dog Roo a 6   year old rescue mongrelI.

Valerie Simon - DVM MSc MRCVS

Valerie qualified in June 2007 from the University of Liege, Belgium, and then worked as an assistant at The Equine Sports Medicine Centre where she attained a Master of Science in sports medicine.  Valerie then took an internship at The Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, where she developed her skills in lameness and poor performance.  Valerie has joined us after working in France in a practice specializing in equine medicine.  The picture to the left shows Valerie jumping 'Jalousy' her former thouroughbred cross mare.   

 

Practice Manager &Nursing Staff

Paula Nugent - BA (Hons) CVPM - Practice Manager and Theatre Nurse

Paula qualified from The University of  Paisley in 1995 with a first class honours degree in Marketing.  After spending 8 years in industry with IBM, Paula took a career change, and came to work at The Equine Veterinary Clinic as a trainee veterinary nurse.  Paula has recently taken on the role of Practice Manager and Head theatre nurse. Paula achieved the Certificate of Veterinary Practice Management in Dec 2008. Paula is the owner and rider of a thoroughbred mare.

 

Lynne Thompson - Veterinary support staff

Lynne worked part time for the practice for a number of years, and recently became a full time member of the team. Lynne has her own zoo! With too many animals to mention individually, her brood includes horses, sheep, dogs, cats and fish, as well as a foal born in July 2007.

 

 

LynnGillian Hodgart - Veterinary support staff

Gillian joined the practice in September 2007 and has quickly established herself as a valued member of the team.  Gillian has previous experience working with horses and enjoys riding at the weekends at a local livery yard.  

 

Receptionist

PamelaPamela Gray - Receptionist

Pamela came to work in the practice in September 2004 after taking BHS examinations and spending time travelling in Europe. Pamela has her own horse, called Henry, and can be seen regularly competeing in local competitions. Pamela is always available at the end of the telephone to deal with any queries, including booking appointments, accounts and general advice on worming and vaccinations.
